ISL collaborates with City University to look into the trend of IT application
Integrated Solutions Limited (ISL) has been a leading ERP solution provider since 1985.On November 2005, ISL has collaborated with Division of Commerce, City University of Hong Kong to carry out a survey on the implementation of ERP system in local SMEs. During the press conference, Dr K.K. Lam, Principal Lecturer, Division of Commerce, City University of Hong Kong has presented his insight and analysis on the research findings Results show that merely 20% of local SMEs have implemented an ERP system. Comparing to an 80% successful implementation in Western countries, Hong Kong has lagged behind obviously. Among those who have implemented ERP systems, more than 90% shows that information timeliness and accuracy, overall planning and management have been significantly improved.
Survey Objectives:
- To gain insight into current ERP implementation trends among companies in HK/China
- Compare our results with those from a USA 2004 worldwide survey
- Identify further research and follow up activities to assist local SMEs
Research Methodology:
- Used SME database of companies from 6 industries: electronics, watches, plastics, toys, metal, and trade.
- Randomly selected 500 companies from each of the above six industries in SME database. Total of 3000 companies.
- From each industry, selected 100 companies that met the following criteria:
- Sales turnover/year: $10M - $30M HKD
- Number of employees at Hong Kong Office: 20 - 50 people
- CityU students conducted telephone survey over 2 months period (Mid Aug-Mid Oct 2005)
- Respondents were company owner or General Managers or business owners.
- Response rate: 40%
